Associate Director, Office of Research Management (Hybrid Remote) ($115000.00 – $145000.00 / year) United States

Responsibilities Management Responsibilities:

  • Oversees staffing, hiring, and performance reviews for department staff
  • Conducts counseling and corrective action as needed, in collaboration with Human Resources and Director
  • Manages administrative needs such as timesheet approval and new hire paperwork
  • Ensures optimal performance of assigned staff on projects or studies
  • Ensures staff compliance with policies, procedures, and SOPs

General Responsibilities

  • Develops and delivers training for employees
  • Serves as a mentor for employees
  • Represents department in committees and working groups
  • Assists with problem assessment and resolution
  • Proposes and implements process improvements
  • Sets annual goals and communicates vision to department team
  • Assists with revenue evaluation and forecasting
  • Supports proposal submissions and compliance
  • Manages information, projects, and communications within the department
  • Coordinates communication and directs items as appropriate
  • Prepares reports and summaries for organizational action
  • Manages workload, schedule, and special projects
  • Facilitates flow of information for department staff
  • Participates in research agreement review and negotiation
  • Develops and implements internal standard operating procedures


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of research management experience in a supervisory role required
  • Experience with federal and non-federal sponsor guidelines and regulations required
  • Experience with contract and grant negotiation required
  • Competence in oral and written communication
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and professional
  • Flexible and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • Research or healthcare background preferred

Additional Information

  • This is a hybrid remote position for the National Capital Region, with occasional travel required
  • Salary range: $115,000 – $145,000
  • Full-time positions include comprehensive benefits package
  • Part-time and intermittent positions may vary
