Behavior

The Senior Technical Animator is the person who enables animators to showcase their talent. Armed with a solid understanding of rigging and skinning principles, they create the structure that allows the animator to deform the character or object according to design requirements. They leverage your technical expertise to facilitate the integration of animation systems within production pipelines. 

In this role you will:

  • Create and optimize rigs and skinning solutions for characters and assets of varying complexity while respecting technical constraints.
  • Design, implement, and maintain animation systems, pipelines, and workflows to ensure smooth integration within game engines.
  • Develop animation tools and scripts to improve efficiency, automation processes, and streamline production workflows.
  • Drive technical excellence by recommending best practices, evaluating production methods, and identifying new tools and solutions.
  • Mentor and support team members by sharing expertise in rigging, skinning, animation pipelines, and engine integration.
  • Optimize animation content and provide production support, including performance optimization across platforms and motion capture assistance when required.

What we’re looking for:

  • 5-9 years of experience in technical animation within game development.
  • Strong expertise in 3D animation, including animation workflows and best practices.
  • Proficiency with game engines and DCC tools: Unreal Engine, Unity, Maya, Blender, MotionBuilder, and DaVinci Resolve.
  • Programming skills in Python and C++ to support animation tools, pipelines, and systems.
  • Experience creating and working with rigging and Anim Graph systems, with a solid understanding of their implementation.
  • Strong grasp of animation principles and biomechanics, enabling realistic movement and high-quality character deformation.

In this role, you will need to:

  • Create and optimize rigging and skinning systems for characters and assets of varying complexity, while respecting technical constraints;
  • Design, implement and maintain animation systems, pipelines and processes to ensure seamless integration into game engines;
  • Develop animation tools and scripts to automate tasks, improve efficiency and optimize production workflows;
  • Promote technical excellence by recommending best practices, evaluating production methods and proposing new tools and solutions;
  • Supporting and mentoring team members by sharing expertise in rigging, skinning, animation pipelines and engine integration;
  • Optimize content and animation systems, while providing production support, including cross-platform performance and motion capture when required.

What we are looking for:

  • 5 to 9 years of experience in technical animation in the video game industry;
  • Excellent command of 3D animation, its processes and best practices;
  • Proficiency in game engines and digital creation software (DCC): Unreal Engine, Unity, Maya, Blender, MotionBuilder and DaVinci Resolve;
  • Strong programming skills with Python and C++ for the development of animation tools, systems and pipelines;
  • Experience with rigging systems and Anim Graphs, including their design, implementation and use;
  • Good understanding of the fundamental principles of animation and biomechanics, enabling the production of realistic movements and high-quality deformations.

You will work on a fundamental overhaul of our existing animation pipeline, while also contributing to next-generation R&D projects based on MetaHumans, Motion Matching, modular Control Rigs, and real-time mesh customization.

You will collaborate with our technical animation team to design and evolve the animation pipeline for MetaHumans, facial animation, gameplay features and in-game IK — taking charge of the tools and their integration into Unreal Engine, to enable animators to deliver AAA quality for characters, whether Killers or Survivors.
